The Summit

In August, 2008, 18 mountain climbers reached the top of K2, 4 hours later 11 people were dead. While memorials paid tribute to those killed, there were also condemnations about the way. Why did these climbers risk everything to reach a peak humans are simply not meant to go? With breathtaking cinematography and jaw-dropping reconstructions based on the testimony of those who survived the climb, this riveting film is about the very nature of adventure in the modern world.

Meru

Three renowned climbers navigate nature’s harshest elements and their own complicated inner demons to ascend Mount Meru, the most technically complicated and dangerous peak in the Himalayas.

Breathtaking: K2 - The World’s Most Dangerous Mountain | Eddie Bauer

K2 is 8611m, the mountain that tried to kill you. That’s how climber George Bell described the infamous peak after the first American expedition in 1953—forever giving the mountain its nickname “The Savage Mountain.” Sixty-six years later, Eddie Bauer mountaineer Adrian Ballinger and Cory Richards set out to summit the 8611-meter peak and join a community of explorers drawn to nature that has long been drawn to this savage peak. Even more incredible, they had no supplemental oxygen. And this wasn’t just a documentary—every single one of the team wore high-tech cameras and advanced equipment to capture the entire expedition. But as Ballinger puts it, “If you quit the mountain is free; it can come at you anytime.”

Dhaulagiri

An Ecuadorian mountaineer battles frostbite, low air, lack of sleep and no oxygen to ascend one of the world’s most dangerous mountains in the world, Dhaulagiri. To his American expedition teammate, the risk was calculated—both had climbed Everest. He teams up with Cory Richards, a National Geographic photographer and the first American to climb an 8,000-meter peak in winter, and they attempt a new route on the north face of Everest.

Though they fail on their first attempt, they vow to return the following season. However, due to the global pandemic, the north side of Everest remains closed, so the ambitious duo turns their attention to Dhaulagiri and attempt a bold new route on its north face.

Through “The Evolution of Darkness” series, the film takes viewers on an emotionally powerful mountaineering journey. When the risk of death on Dhaulagiri stares them in the face, the climbers are forced to confront the question of why they climb—and why it’s worth it.
