Mountain Trek

Kailash Mansarovar Parikrama

Lhasa & EBC (North)

We begin our journey to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, arriving via Chengdu. Situated at an altitude of approximately 11,975 ft (3,650 m), Lhasa is one of the highest cities in the world. Known for its breathtaking beauty, unique landscapes, and deeply spiritual atmosphere, it serves as a perfect introduction to Tibetan culture. We spend two nights here to acclimatize to the altitude and visit iconic landmarks, including the Jokhang Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site revered as the spiritual heart of Tibetan Buddhism, the Sera Monastery, famous for its monk debates, the Norbulingka Palace, the summer residence of the Dalai Lama, and the world-renowned Potala Palace, a striking architectural wonder and former residence of the Dalai Lama.

Our journey then continues toward Mount Kailash, with a scenic drive that includes stops at the turquoise waters of Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet’s three sacred lakes, and the historical city of Gyantse. We make an overnight stop in Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet and home to Tashilhunpo Monastery, the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama. From Shigatse, we take a detour to the Everest Base Camp, where we are greeted by the awe-inspiring sight of Mount Everest, the world’s tallest mountain at 29,031 ft (8,848 m). We spend a night at the nearby Rumbuk Monastery to experience the tranquility of the region before continuing our pilgrimage.

Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar are the spiritual highlights of the journey. Mount Kailash, revered by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon practitioners, is considered the axis mundi or the center of the universe. Lake Manasarovar, situated at 15,100 ft (4,600 m), is one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world and brings spiritual enlightenment. The area is the source of four major rivers—Sutlej, Brahmaputra, Indus, and Karnali—making it sacred to millions. After Man Sarovar parikrama, we will perform rituals at the lake before embarking on the Parikrama (circumambulation) of Mount Kailash, a challenging 3-day trek. This trek takes us over the high-altitude Dolma La Pass at 18,472 ft (5,630 m), the highest point of the journey, and includes a visit to the sacred Gauri Kund, a glacial lake of immense religious significance.

Our return journey takes us through Saga and Kerung, at the Nepal-Tibet border. The descent provides a chance to reflect on the spiritual and physical achievements of this remarkable pilgrimage.

Join us on this sacred Parikrama —a transformative journey to purify your soul, experience unmatched serenity, and connect with divinity in the most profound way!
